For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA which will engage seventh grade students of Government Model Kannada Primary School, Maalamaddi, Dharwad district with a project exploring the art of cattle rearing and buffalo milk distribution practised by the Gauli community in and around Dharwad district, along with the exploration of the popular sweet – Dharwad Peda. Students will understand the history and geographical spread of this community, and engage with the role of the buffalo connecting it to their curriculum in social science, science, and language. The outcome of this project will be a performance in the school premise and a publication. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA with the final report will include a copy of the publication, still and video documentation of the process and the performance. Project funds will pay for contract fees, performance, travel and living, materials, workshop, documentation, and printing.
For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA which will engage fifth grade students of the Government Higher Primary Urdu School, Dharwad taluk, Dharwad district. The project will engage students in various language arts, visual arts and theatrical activities with the Garaga Khadi Gram Udyog, a centre of crafting of the Indian national flag from khadi fabric, since 1974. The project titled Neladallu Noolinallu Deshapremave (Patriotism from Soil and Cotton Thread), will connect students with local histories. The outcome of the project will be publications, performances and an exhibition in the school. Through various arts-integrated activities like reading, writing, storytelling, music, theatre and creating a herbarium this project connects to curriculum in geography, language and science. The project, titled Aralikatte - Terada Vaachanaalaya, will create a platform under a tree as an open library to connect students to nature and encourage creative expression. The outcome of the project will be a publication and an exhibition at the school. For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA under Workshops/Residencies that will create production and dialogue-based filmmaking workshops for young adults and folk artists belonging to the Dalit communities in the villages of Dharwad-Belgaum region of North Karnataka. The outcomes of the project would be the workshop series hosted with Belaku Studios that will culminate with the production and sharing of the films made collaboratively by the participants and artists. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA, along with the final report, will be the short films produced by the participants and the audio-visual and photographic documentation of the workshop process. Project funds will pay for contract fees, hire of equipment, travel and living, hire of venue and materials.
For the building of a pedagogic process for students between the eight and tenth grade, through the principles and application of design practice, using materials from textbooks, vibrant art forms in the locality, and the natural environment where the school is located. For a series of intensive and rigorous theatre and puppetry workshops with students, teacher trainees and teachers, with a view to reinforcing and institutionalising theatre arts pedagogy in primary and collegiate education in the Dharwad area.
For a Karnataka tour of three contemporary shadow-puppetry performances targeted at children and involving university departments of folklore. The performances, which were jointly created by theatre artists, visual artists, musicians and puppeteers, will introduce children to the arts and help sustain folk performance traditions.
For developing a shadow play repertoire by contemporary theatre artists, visual artists, traditional leather puppeteers, folk musicians and children. Besides working on possible technical and performative innovations the collaborators will explore how shadow puppetry may be used in Karnataka’s schools and lead to the inclusion of the arts in school curricula.
