and the Film Screenings of Three IFA supported Films

Singapore sees IFA films! We are delighted to share that three IFA supported films, which have contributed significantly to the understanding of form and aesthetics in the arts, will be screened at the Kalaa Utsavam 2021, presented by Esplanade, Singapore on November 27 and 28, 2021! The film screenings have been co-curated by IFA as part of the ongoing Kalaa Utsavam - Indian Festival of the Arts.
About the IFA supported Films:
The film explores the history, form, style and aesthetics of Assam’s mobile theatre, the issues the community deals with and how the genre has transformed from presenting mythological and folk stories to contemporary themes with social and political implications.
Merajur received a grant from IFA in 2008-09, under the Arts Research and Documentation programme, made possible with support from Mrs Sudha Murty.
Out of Thin Air (Shabani Hassanwalia and Samreen Farooqi | 50mins | Hindi/English with English subtitles)
This is the story of one of the most surreal and hostile landscapes in the world - Ladakh, through the subterranean, local film movement that has taken such a strong root here since the early 2000s, that it has become a voice of the people. Today, taxi drivers, grocery store owners, cops and monks are producers, directors, camerapersons and actors of one of the youngest and most dynamic, local film industries in the world.
Shabani received a grant from IFA in 2007-08, under the Arts Research and Documentation programme.
A film on the Savita Samaja, a community of Nadaswaram players, their relation to music and social structures, it seeks to unravel the predicaments and negotiations that are currently taking place within the community in response to a drastically changing social and cultural milieu.
Ashok received a grant from IFA in 2015-16, under the Arts Research programme, made possible with support from Titan Company Limited.
