Join us on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the opening of the exhibition Talking Devices curated by Anupama Gowda and Pavan Kumar. This exhibition is the culmination of a year-long collaboration with the VITM, Bengaluru and IFA. The VITM established in 1965 is the largest science museum in South India and has proved itself as a non-formal science education resource centre for students. The Archival and Museum Fellowships initiative at IFA supports practitioners to engage with archives and museum collections and re-present them through contemporary frameworks.

Talking Devices is a special exhibition that traces the history and the operating environment of technology, particularly of devices that have revolutionised communication. This exhibition explores a non-linear approach to the museum's collection; it explores the close links that exist between technology, the domain of design and the socio-cultural environment. On display will be a range of objects from the Edison Mechanical phonograph, Decca Gramophone, Field Telephone, Hallicrafters Model S-38 and a few other interactive installations. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of talks and workshops.

Anupama Gowda trained in arts and management with a Master's in Gallery Studies and Critical Curating, University of Essex, United Kingdom and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management in Marketing and Human Resource from the Mount Carmel Institute of Management, Bangalore. She has been a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Award in 2007 and an ARThinkSouthAsia Fellow in 2012. She was also a recipient of the MIT Media Lab India Initiative under the 'Creative Learning' Track.

Pavan Kumar trained in Mechanical Engineering and is the Founder/CEO of Workbench Projects, a makerspace/FabLab in Bangalore. He has spearheaded industry-based hackathons and was co-curator of Maker Faire Bengaluru, 2017, working extensively with fellow-makers, technologists and industry specialists.

This Archival and Museum Fellowship from India Foundation for the Arts, in collaboration with Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bengaluru, is made possible with support from Tata Trusts.

Please note that while entry to the preview on February 15 is free, VITM will charge an admission fee for the duration of the exhibition.
