Join us for a talk titled Gadgets in the Times of Circular Economy by Jayashankara Aradhya, advisor and consultant, Head of MS Operations, Wireline and CDN, Ericsson India, followed by the Repair and Repay Workshop.

About the Talk and Workshop:

In his talk, Jayashankara Aradhya will focus on the 'take, make and dispose' extractive industrial model of the current gadget industry together with the other end of the circular economy which is the restorative and regenerative aspect.

The workshop invites people to bring in their broken gadgets in order to give them a new life. This will help participants understand the inner workings of their gadgets, become aware about electronic waste, and find ways and means to repay, by recycling the material.

These two events are the first in a series that will lead up to the Talking Devices Exhibition Series which will open at VITM in February 2019 and will be curated by IFA Fellows Anupama Gowda and Pavan Kumar.

About the Fellows:

Anupama Gowda trained in arts and management with a Master's in Gallery Studies and Critical Curating, University of Essex, United Kingdom and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management in Marketing and Human Resource from the Mount Carmel Institute of Management, Bangalore. She has been a recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Award in 2007 and an ARThinkSouthAsia Fellow in 2012. She was also a recipient of the MIT Media Lab India Initiative under the 'Creative Learning' Track.

Pavan Kumar trained in Mechanical Engineering and is the Founder/CEO of Workbench Projects, a makerspace/FabLab in Bangalore. He has spearheaded industry-based hackathons and was co-curator of Maker Faire Bengaluru, 2017, working extensively with fellow-makers, technologists and industry specialists.
