Join us for a glimpse into diverse spaces, people and stories of three neighbourhoods in Bangalore shared by its very own citizens.
Discover unique stories of the streets in Richmond Town with a group of mothers and children, catch the experiences of an arts-based therapy intervention for adolescent children of the MGR colony in Banashankari, and explore the history of the 'Egyptian' neighbourhood in Jayanagar Third Block.
Please note that while entry to the event is free we do request you to RSVP for the event by writing to menaka@indiaifa.org
Sharanya Iyer is an architect and urban designer who runs Studio Verge on Alexandria Street in Richmond Town. She received a grant to explore the history of Richmond Town. Involving a group of mothers and children, the engagement uncovered the narratives around the names of five specific streets in the neighbourhood through research and interviews with residents.
Pallavi Chander is a creative arts therapist. She received a grant for sharing, through artistic practices, an arts-based therapy intervention by the children of the MGR colony in Banashankari. The adolescent residents and participants of the Creative Arts Expression programme of the Buguri Community Library shared their experiences in a year-long engagement with this intervention.
Gayatri Chandrashekar is a singer and journalist. She received a grant towards the creation of a performance exploring the history of the ‘Egyptian’ neighbourhood in Jayanagar Third Block. Through in-depth personal interviews of the residents, the project was aimed at eliciting their memories and current relationship with the locality.
Sharanya Iyer, Pallavi Chander and Gayatri Chandrashekar received grants from India Foundation for the Arts, under its Project 560 programme, made possible with support from Citi India.
Please join us for refreshments after the presentation.
